The Curaçao Leadership Forum (CLF) organizes a Leadership Award every year.

 

Curaçao is undergoing changes towards a better community.  In order to facilitate this process along, the CLF seeks to build awareness on the need of, and facilitate ethical leadership in our community through dialog and cultivating the “Fire within.”  The CLF accomplishes this by providing an environment and path for personal development towards solution oriented outside the box thinking; and to create a pool of 200 leaders from all walks of life; connects networks, aligns efforts, and harmonizes relationships to make this Island live up to its tremendous potential.

 

Awarding people that put value-driven and principle centered leadership into practice is a great motivator.  Plus positive affirmation facilitates the forward development of leadership.  This award program allows the CLF to create and educate more value-driven and principle centered leaders on the island, and stimulate the movement towards a new constitutional status for Curaçao, in order to develop this beautiful island to live up to its full potential.

The impact of such an award program will give the community a positive look on itself and it will encourage people to also work on constructing and building the new ‘’Pais Kòrsou’’.  The award program consists of an organizing committee responsible for the overall program execution, the award criteria, the judging committee, the selection process, the award presentation event, and ensures that the sponsors are satisfied.

The Organizing Committee

The organizing committee consists of 5 to 7 members of the community who volunteer their time to organize the selection process and the event to present the winner of the award.  In exchange, the volunteers gain valuable and practical experience with several opportunities to hone their leadership skills, and build their networks.

The Award Criteria

The criteria are a based on the principles of Ethical and Service Leadership and consist of the following 6 major factors:

  1. Living according to core values in all roles family/neighborhood/work/benevolence in any case outside own family ring
  2. Moral Authority - Influences people in a positive sense
  3. Renewing/refreshing to their target group
  4. Must be brave
  5. Must be able communicate with the target group
  6. Must be decent

The Judges

Members of the judging committee are also member of the community who volunteer their time, and apply the selection process and evaluate the submitted nominee profiles against the criteria.  The judging committee is chaired by a member of the organizing committee.  Thus the chairperson of the judging committee functions as a non-voting judge.

The Selection Process

The selection process consists of the following steps:

  • Nominees are submitted through an Nominee Profile Submission Form to the organizing committee who screens the profiles for any deficiencies.  The organizing committee then provides the judging committee with the screened profiles.
  • The criteria have been initially created by the organizing committee and are reviewed and possibly revised yearly against worldwide and local trends.
  • The judging committee is organized and chaired by a member of the organizing committee.  The Chief Judge is a none voting member of the judging committee.  The judges are briefed about the criteria and the guiding principles for the selection of the 3 candidates for the award, out of which a winner is selected.
  • The chief judge then presents the results to the chairperson of the organizing committee and together they deliver the results during the award presentation event.

The Award Presentation

The Leadership Award presentation event is the highlight of the whole award program as it is a gala celebration event by invitation only and everyone is eager to know who will be the recipient of the award for past year.  The evening event is usually organized early in the New Year, and it is the intention of the Curaçao Leadership Forum to coordinate this with the presentation of other awards, such as the Wendall Girigori Change Award, and there by create a glamorous evening of celebration and light entertainment.
